Benjamin Fondane and the Quartet Aguilar (Paco, Ezequiel, Pepe and Elisa Aguilar), Buenos Aires 1936 -nd
[Cuarteto de laúdes Aguilar]
Fondane went to Buenos Aires a first time in July 1929 on the invitation of Victoria Ocampo for a serie of conferences on cinema. He went back in 1936 to work on a movie “Tararira”, produced by Miguel Machinandiarena. “Tararira” (La bohemia de hoy) was the only movie entirely realised by Fondane, on a music by Paco Aguilar (the Aguilar were also acting in the movie). Because of misunderstanding between Fondane and Machinandiarena, the movie will never be shown; Fondane could never get it back from the producer and apparently all the copies disappeared after the war.
Not mentionned in the original caption, the seated man on the photo is Miguel Machinandiarena (i think…)
